Japanese zoologists were able to prove that cats can distinguish their name from many similar words and other similar names.
To test this hypothesis, a team of scientists from Tokyo, led by Atsuko Saito, conducted an experiment with several dozen cats from "cat cafes" in the capital of Japan.
Researchers asked the owners of animals and university visitors to pronounce 4 nouns and pet nouns. Many words were like the nicknames of animals, the other words were nicknames of other pets.
In all the circumstances described above, the animals reacted exclusively to their names. Another interesting fact is that the cats reacted to their names in those cases if they were pronounced by strangers to them.
Based on this, scientists have concluded that pets understand not only intonation, but also the words and speech themselves.
Scientists suggest that cats can memorize and recognize individual sounds and their combinations, which puts them on par with dogs and other social animals with high intelligence.
Every year, the Canadian organization Toronto Cat Rescue saves at least 2,700 cats, but volunteers have never been in such an unusual situation.
The fact is that earlier they had to help pets who lived in different houses. But this time, the organization’s employees had to deal immediately with 120 cats that were under the same roof!
When the organization's volunteers received a call from a worried woman, they did not immediately understand what was happening. But when the caller told about the number of pets in her house, the rescuers were shocked.
When she arrived at the cat owner, executive director Belinda Wandersluis described her impressions like this:
"It was impossible to count them, can you imagine? Cats scattered everywhere! They were all of different ages, but very similar to each other. No doubt they are related! "
Fortunately, all the inhabitants of the house were healthy - they only found fleas and worms. True, the organization could not take responsibility for the fate of all the cats, so under their care there were only 50 cats, and the rest were taken up by their colleagues from other similar organizations - Toronto Animal Services and Toronto Humane Society.
But how did it happen that a woman had so many pets in the house? As it turned out, she took to her several kittens, which, apparently, were not sterilized. It was enough for one pair of the opposite sex to start the process of the birth of kittens ...
Belinda also says that it is difficult to control him, because already in 6 months young cats and cats are ready to become parents.
Of course, their owner tried to look after the numerous cat "family" as best she could, but the situation reached the point that it was already impossible to be in the house.
"It was a place where both live and visit was unpleasant. Suffice to say about the smell that was in the room, and not only! "- says Belinda.
Well, the woman managed to help, and now the shelter workers will be engaged in kittens and adults. All of them will definitely find owners, and the smallest kittens will be ready for "adoption" in four weeks.
We are very pleased that the story ended this way, but it remains to be asked: why didn’t the hostess ask for help earlier, without waiting for the appearance of so many animals?
The famous cat of Karl Lagerfeld received hundreds of condolences from around the world. Fans of the deceased designer leave them in the account of the animal in Instagram.
A Burmese-eyed, blue-eyed cat named Shupett was the closest creature to the famous, but lonely creative director of the Chanel house. He once mentioned in an interview that if Schupett dies earlier, he creams the animal and bequeaths to mix its ashes with his. It turned out differently: the seven-year-old cat outlived its owner.
In Britain, again looking for a new family for the gray cat Mitzi, which is called one of the fattest cats in the United Kingdom.
For the fourth time, a fluffy beauty is being returned to an orphanage in Plymouth, The Daily Mail reports.
Mitzi first came to volunteers in May 2017, when she weighed 16 pounds. The baleen cat was put on a strict diet and the owner was found, but the cat soon returned the cat. He said that he could not get along with the "grumpy" pet.
Since then, Mitzi has been taken to "good hands" three times, and each time she again found herself in a shelter — nowhere could she take root. Now the cat is eight years old, she weighs 12 pounds, and again she is looking for a man with whom she could get along.
According to the staff of the orphanage, Mitzi is very much in love there, and the cat itself is tired of changing owners. She needs a house where there are no children and animals, because she is already not young, it is difficult for her to get along with them. Veterinarians are sure: if Mitzi becomes even thinner, she will become more mobile and more cheerful, and then it will be easier for the cat to find a home.
